ConMat

Discover everything you need to successfully implement ConMat in your classroom!

ConMat is a competencies test created with the aim of helping teachers find their students’ level of mathematical knowledge both at the beginning and at the end of the year. They not only test content – like other tests that already exist – but also the mathematical processes.

Each test covers the content addressed in the current grade (for ConMat done in May) or the previous grade (for ConMat in September).

This is why the end-of-year test closely resembles the test given at the start of the next grade.

The Validity of ConMat Tests

In collaboration with experts from the Biomedical Research Institute of Bellvitge.

The evidence supports that ConMat exhibits psychometric validity—that is, it is a reliable instrument for measuring students’ mathematical competence.

Logistics and Operation

The ConMat tests should be completed in one session, similar to a digital practice session. That being said, you can give a few more minutes to students who need it, if necessary.

We recommend that students have written support, as it can be helpful throughout the test.

Once the test is finished, it must be sent using the Send button.

It is not necessary to have answered all the questions in order to send the test. This being said, unanswered questions count as errors.

The Tests

Classification of questions, content, samples, and reports

Each ConMat question focuses on specific content and a cognitive domain. In this way, the reports can inform teachers of students’ prior knowledge of the 5 content strands as well as the different cognitive domains.

Organizing the test into cognitive domains allows us to differentiate the questions aimed at content knowledge from those that also require practicing different mathematical processes. The ConMat tests are made up of the following sections:

Despite the fact that the test questions are multiple choice, they help students to apply their knowledge of mathematical contents and processes.

Here are some examples of the types of questions your students will get for each level.

The Reports

A few days after taking the test, you’ll be able to access the report for each class assigned to you in the Classroom Manager. The report is structured in 4 parts:

1

An overview of the class results and a comparison with all the Innovamat students who have completed the same test.

2

Whole-class results (broken down into content strands and cognitive domains) in connection with the other classes in the school (if applicable) and with the rest of the schools that use Innovamat.

3

An overview of student results within each class.

4

Individual student results for each class (broken down into content blocks and cognitive fields).

Frequent
questions

Do students with Individualized Educational Programs (IEP’s) have to take the same test as the rest of the class?

Currently, the entire class takes the same math knowledge test.

Why can’t I do ConMat at the beginning of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade?

Currently, we have developed ConMat tests for the end of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.

*Ecuador: at the beginning and the end of 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of EGB.

Why haven’t I received the reports?

It is important that you have the correct class assigned to you in the Classroom Manager. Reports will be available for download in PDF format from the Classroom Manager.
