Since starting with Innovamat, they have noticed a substantial change in students’ attitudes toward math. The well-rounded activities in the curriculum allow all students, regardless of their level and ability, to find strategies that allow them to solve problems and in turn acquire the necessary mathematical knowledge.
Elementary school sessions at Innovamat are divided into 3 parts: Let’s Warm Up (to start the discussion and go over some concepts from previous sessions), Let’s Talk (where students work individually or in groups, exploring and sharing different strategies) and Let’s Log It (where they write down what has been learned in the session in their logbooks).
It is precisely this dynamic that allows for a culture of feedback in the class, according to Marta. “They don’t feel alone in stressful situations because there is always a group of peers to comfort them, and when in doubt, you are there to help. Those who have not seen or noticed something can go back to discover based on their classmates’ opinions”.
And not only that, the coherence in Innovamat’s approach to teaching which aligns with what was already being taught in the school was one of the main reasons in their decision to change.
“Innovamat appeared in our lives and we saw the light”, Marta Llovet, head of studies, tells us. “In addition to helping us with teaching, it has allowed us to centralize and unify resources.”
That, and “having all the material prepared is very user friendly. We prefer to invest our time in reflection and not in having to prepare everything necessary for the session”.
Miquel Pérez, Elementary school teacher
Lastly, both Miquel and Antonio, elementary school teachers, emphasize that mathematical learning has to be attractive in order to connect with students. Students who live in an increasingly digital world.
“I think the platform is 75% of what motivates them to use Innovamat,” Miquel tells us. This individualized practice, besides being attractive, helps them consolidate everything they have worked on in class. “But that said, it is a user-friendly and attractive tool that is also serious“, Antonio emphasizes.
One of the most important aspects of personalized practice is that it not only allows students to practice individually and gives them recommendations based on how they are progressing through the content, but also, it provides the teacher with personalized reports that give them ‘a more accurate idea’ of how they are consolidating ‘concrete, fundamental concepts such as Numbers and Operations’. For the teacher, automating and individualizing these reports means a better management of their timeallowing them to focus on what is most important: giving the students their attention.
