The White Paper: The Research Behind the Innovamat Curriculum
Innovamat exists to offer students—and the teachers who guide them—a way of learning math that fosters understanding and critical thinking. Our ultimate goal is to help learners develop essential skills such as problem-solving, reasoning, communication, and making meaningful connections, while deeply understanding the concepts behind mathematics.

To achieve this, we design and create instructional resources based on two major assets:
  • Our team’s years of hands-on classroom experience
  • A foundation in cutting-edge research on math education

We’ve compiled this research and connected it with many aspects of how students learn math, how we structure our curriculum, and the tools and strategies we propose. The result is what we call our White Paper:

What Is a White Paper?

A white paper is an academic document published by an organization to offer a comprehensive, research-based perspective on a specific topic. It serves as a practical guide, grounded in solid evidence.

In our case, the Innovamat White Paper is centered around how students learn mathematics. It synthesizes scientific literature on education and pedagogy, drawing from key authors, established theoretical frameworks, and peer-reviewed research from universities and academic institutions.

This evidence helps us make sound instructional decisions across the board—from how we design lessons to how we sequence classroom activities.

How to Use the Innovamat White Paper

Even though it’s a technical and in-depth document, we believe Learning Mathematics: The Theoretical Foundations of the Innovamat Curriculum can be highly insightful and useful—not just for teachers, but for families and anyone interested in our approach. In fact, we use it ourselves in internal training, team discussions, and collaborative learning.

Bridging Research and the Classroom

A common concern among teachers is that academic research rarely makes it into the classroom. While there are exceptions, there’s often a gap between what is studied in universities and what is applied in schools.

That’s why our goal is to make sure that rigorous educational research underpins every classroom decision—from broad pedagogical strategies down to how an individual activity is worded.

This ensures that everything we design contributes meaningfully to student learning.

A Living Document for a Living Project

At Innovamat, we always say our project is alive—because it evolves with the schools, teachers, and students who use it. As more schools in diverse settings adopt our curriculum and tools, we continue to expand, reflect, and iterate.
