Andreu Dotti (CEO) and Isaac Sayol (CPO) met while studying engineering at UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and opened a tutoring academy to help students struggling with math. There, they realized these struggles weren’t due to a lack of talent, but to a lack of conceptual understanding. With the goal of improving math learning across all grade levels, they teamed up with Àlex Espinet (CTO) and founded Innovamat in Barcelona (Europe).
To give the project real depth and rigor, they needed to partner with the leading experts in the field. So they went to UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona) to find Dr. Cecília Calvo and Dr. Laura Morera, leading experts in math education. As PhDs and active teachers, they brought the missing ingredient: the rigor of scientific research and hands-on classroom experience.
What began with just 13 schools kept growing, always listening to teachers, students, and families, until we built a complete math curriculum from preschool through middle school.
Today, we offer a comprehensive solution that brings the whole school community together. We provide coaching, professional learning, and teacher guides for educators, assessment tools, targeted support for students with learning differences, and resources for families.
In 2022, we created the Innovamat research department: a team of experts in math education, cognition, neuroscience, and learning. Their mission is to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and what classrooms actually need by studying how children learn math, measuring the impact of our programs, and sharing what we learn with the entire school community.
We strive to lead research in math education, ensuring our products and services are clear, trustworthy, and grounded in evidence.
We’re still a company exclusively focused on math, because we love it. What started as a tutoring academy in Barcelona for college students is now a global company partnering with schools in 9 countries. The mission lives on: we keep unlocking the math potential of thousands of students around the world.
