Building Thinking Classrooms x Innovamat

Building Thinking Classrooms Everywhere

We’re here to make thinking central to math education.

How Many Kids Really Think in Math Class?

Research findings show that in a typical class, only about 20% of students engage in thinking, and even then, only for about 20% of the time. In a 60-minute class with 30 students, this means that only 5 to 7 students actively think for just 8 to 16 minutes, while the rest do not engage in thinking at all. (Liljedahl, 2020)

Where Curiosity Thrives and Critical Thinking Grows

We’ve done math the same way for too long, yet we keep seeing the same results. It’s time to transform classrooms into spaces of active thinking, not passive listening.

Dr. Peter Liljedahl, through Building Thinking Classrooms, and Innovamat, together combine years of research and real-world classroom experience to place thinking at the heart of math education.

«Innovamat allows educators to get through the content that they’re required to teach while at the same time leaving room for them to bring their own pedagogies and to wrap it around the content that they’re teaching.» – Dr. Peter Liljedahl

Discover What our Collaboration Brings

BTC x Innovamat provide a comprehensive suite of resources designed to transform math education by fostering deep thinking in both teachers and students.

As a result, educators will confidently and purposefully center thinking in their classrooms empowered by curricular resources that will significantly transform how students learn—and enjoy—math.

Educational outreach

We bring BTC to more educators

Building Thinking Classrooms is highly recommended for any mathematics teacher looking to innovate in their teaching practice and enhance their students’ learning experience.

These discussions opened the door for us to collaborate on the Spanish edition of the book, helping to bring it to more educators.
